Birrieria El Chalan: Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Omaha

Delicious Mexican food. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. I took off a star due to them only taking cash. I think that should be updated. However, the tacos, sopas and burritos were amazing. I do wish they had options with chicken because there are many people that avoid steak and pork.

The food is amazing and as far as I know pretty authentic. The Tortas was good and not something you see at every Mexican restaurant. Most of the meat options were pork, but I can assume that the steak is also good. It is worth mentioning that almost everything is in Spanish, but this adds to the charm. The employees which I talked to spoke English well and were able to help us figure out the menu (There was also a basic dictionary on the menu and a few items were also listed in English). The staff was friendly and I felt as if they genuinely cared about what they were doing and our satisfaction. If you are worried about not speaking Spanish and not able to read the full descriptions, don't be, simply choose any item on the menu and you should be fine. The sodas are all bottled, no fountain, but Mexican sodas are an option. The prices are pretty good, between 5 and 10 dollars depending on what you order, and the more expensive end has lots of food. The only real drawback to this restaurant is that they do not take checks or cards, but bring cash and you will have a great meal!

For someone who travels a lot and knows good birria…. This is it. This is one of the best birria I’ve had. It’s clean, not super greasy.

Great place and great food, and great people but you may want to brush up on your Spanish. The goat dishes are incredible!!!

I wanted some authentic Birria tacos. So I randomly picked a location for my son and self. The outter appearance didn't look like much, however, the Carne asada Birria tacos were delightful. My son is super picky and he loved them with the lime on top. I'll definitely return for this savory treat

Hands down the best birria in the area! Definitely ask for the beef/lamb combination birria, this is the house specialty. Authentic food, outstanding flavors. I also ordered a taco de tripa (I know, risky, right?) and they totally delivered a crunchy, yet very flavorful taco! I definitely recommend you experience this place.

Great vibe here, really feels like a genuine neighborhood spot with that warm, casual atmosphere that keeps me coming back.

Delicious Mexican food...did I mention they have freshly made tortillas! So on the weekends they offer birria made of goat meat, some folks prefer that for being a more tender meat. And if you are not a big fan of it, they have your other regular options, like burritos, tacos, and nachos.
